Ideas & Tips to Make the Most of Genes Day

While many schools, businesses, and companies host a one-day, $5 participation donation for Genes Day on March 21, some participants took things a step further and made Genes Day and event and celebration!  Here are some ideas to help you make the most of Genes Day, while spreading Down syndrome awareness and raising money for the DSAGSL.

Ask about a company match program.  Many companies offer a program to match charitable donations. With the help of a company match, your donation total could be doubled!

Offer incentives.  Several schools offered fun incentives to encourage student participation.  For example, a P.E. teacher offered a "no dress day" for participants, while other teachers have offered cookies for each participant, or a pizza party for full class participation.

Get competitive.  Competition can be between classes in schools or between departments at work.  Offer an exciting prize for the class or department that raises the most funds for Genes Day!

Get both students AND teachers involved.

Host a Genes Week instead of a Genes Day!

Educate students, teachers, or co-workers about Down syndrome.  Our Genes Day posters offer facts about Down syndrome and can easily be displayed throughout your building.
