Hosting Your Own Team Fundraising Event
All Step Up for Down Syndrome teams must create a fundraising page on Firstgiving.com and request a team packet from the DSAGSL office to register a team. A team's fundraising total is not counted toward the fundraising contest unless they have both requested a team packet and created a Firstgiving page. Many teams choose to host their own event to boost their fundraising totals and increase their chances in taking part in the honorary Kids' Starting Lineup at the Walk in the Park on September 29.
Guidelines for Hosting an Event for Your Step Up for Down Syndrome Team
1. All Step Up for Down Syndrome teams should be registered through the DSAGSL office. To be an officially registered team, a team should both 1) Request an official 2012 Step Up for Down Syndrome team packet through the DSAGSL office by filling out this online form; 2) Create an online fundraising page on www.firstgiving.com.
2. The use of the Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis logo is prohibited for individual use for the promotion of your team event. The DSAGSL hosts several events throughout the year, and this policy is in place to distinguish between an official DSAGSL hosted event and an individual DSAGSL member event.
3. All event promotional material must clearly state that the fundraising event benefits the individual team, with proceeds being donated to the Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis. Wording example: "Come join us for a bake sale benefitting Timmy's Team! Proceeds will be donated to the Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis." This is to clarify that your team will benefit from your event and fundraising efforts (through our fundraising competition for Walk in the Park tickets and Opening Ceremony field positions) and that the donations that the DSAGSL receives will be credited toward your team name.
4. Promotional material must include the DSAGSL's website (www.dsagsl.org) & contact number (314/961.2504). This will enable any potential donors or supporters for your fundraising event to learn more information about the DSAGSL and Step Up for Down Syndrome, as well as contact the DSAGSL for any questions or to verify your team's intentions.
5. The DSAGSL cannot advertise for any individual team fundraising event. Our time is dedicated to advertising our event as a whole and we cannot commit any time or promotional space to publicizing individual events that benefit a Step Up for Down Syndrome team. Additionally, SUDS fundraising is a competition between teams, and all fundraising efforts are solely the responsibility of the individual team.
6. All in-kind donations (food, raffle/silent auction prizes, beverages, etc.) that your team receives cannot be sent to the DSAGSL office. Any item donations for your team must be sent to your team contact or a team member. Any items received at the DSAGSL office are assumed property of the DSAGSL and will be used as a donation for our future raffles/silent auctions.
